Whitney Shay, Schizophonics, Hot Snakes, Havnauts & Parker Meridien win big at San Diego Music Awards
It was a five-way tie Monday night at the 2019 San Diego Music Awards, where charismatic vocal dynamo Whitney Shay and the bands Hot Snakes, Parker Meridien, Schizophonics and The Havnauts won two trophies each. The show featured performances by eight bands and solo artists. including the debut of The Java Joe’s All Stars, led by two-time Grammy Award-winner Jason Mraz.
Shay was voted Artist of the Year at the annual awards fete, which was held at downtown’s House of Blues. She also received the Best Blues Album prize for her 2018 release, “A Woman Rules the World.” (The complete list of winners appears below.)
“Oh my god! Oh my god! Oh my god!” Shay said as she accepted her Artist of the Year award at the end of the show..
“I was just telling my band: ‘There’s no way we’re winning this award.’ This has been the best year of my life and it’s only getting better.”
